TILL VICTORY.
The image above is taken from mets.com. [Thanks to a Brilliant Commenter for pointing this out.] Clearly, the noise everyone is making is finally being heard. Now is our time!
I apologize for the lack of updates. You can read along on Twitter for smaller thoughts that don’t rate a larger post. I am not one of those bloggers who posts content for content’s sake, although I suppose I would be a more successful blogger if I did. I just hate when people do that to me.
What else could I possibly add to the Pirate incursion? What could I say that you hadn’t said already? We are supposed to win these games. We are supposed to beat up on these teams. We should take 5 out of 8 of the upcoming games. You don’t need me to tell you that.
I was glad for yesterday’s rainout. I am glad for today’s day game, even though I can no longer get Gameday Audio at work, and my new iPhone is still about a month away. None of this is a bad thing, I don’t think, but I do feel detached from the Mets in a way I never did before. Part of it is the uneven Citi Field schedule we now have. There is no more consistency, no more Tuesdays and Fridays, if the Mets are in town, we are at the ballpark. TBF has made color-coded schedules and hung them all over the house but both of us find ourselves struggling to remember when is the next game we have tickets for?
We are also going to less games. Our plan gave us 30 games. We used to have 25 in one plan and then pick up another one when it was down to about 6 or 7, plus what we’d pick up on the spur of the moment, plus road games. But in 2009, there is no more spontaneous, hey! wanna go to the game! when the cheapest ticket we can find is $60. Now, we would never chance getting on the 7 train and seeing what we could find at the box office, because what we will find will be more than we want to spend… for seats not worth the price. We used to keep a set of “game clothes” at the office just in case.
Those days are gone.
Although, if the Mets keep playing the way they do, all of that might just change.
We are not going to DC this weekend, despite (finally!) there being a series against the Nationals on a weekend. We are going to see some baseball, but it will be AL baseball in Seattle. This is our yearly trip to see our friends who hold the Safeco Field charter seats, in the front row, just off of first base. I am looking forward to seeing Endy from the type of seats I fantasize about owning some day. (Although truth be told, if I could buy any seats I wanted, it would be a few rows behind the visitor’s dugout - so I could see into the Mets’ dugout.) Safeco means salmon and chips from Spud’s or Kid Valley or Shishkaberries. The weather is slated to cooperate, and our friends’ children are old enough to at least try to run the bases for their first time on Sunday.
We come back in time to see the Phillies at Citi Field on Thursday, and then head up to the House of Evil III for the Friday Subway Series game. We traded our Subway Series tickets to a Yankees season ticket holder. We were hoping that they would adjust the rotation and we would get Santana… but now we are likely to see that Cy Young contender Tim Redding instead. Going to this game seemed like a great idea at the time we set up the trade; now I am not sure I want to deal with those people in that place with this team. On the other hand, well, that’s what we do.
We are also off to Baltimore on the 18th, and I am excited for that. Our seats for that game are ridiculous. Thank you, Baltimore.
Finally, Paul McCartney at Citi. Given that I already have the check mark next to McCartney’s name on the “Beatles I Have Seen Live” list, I think I am going to sit this one out. TBF still needs to see him, so will probably go solo. We are still trying to figure out what we will do if Springsteen plays Citizens Bank Park, or how much trouble we could potentially get into on the field if we did.
What’s everyone else up to?

I have an 8th inning sing-along for you. The Mets have such a connection to the Beatles and Paul McCartney is coming back to play a few concerts at Shea, why don’t we sing along with the Beatles. “Help” if we’re tied/losing, or “Twist and Shout” if we’re winning.
