One sure way you know the Mets have achieved critical mass in NYC: When the souvenir shops at the airports have identical displays for both the Mets and the Yankees. I would have included a photo but I was at LGA on business at 5:45am and not in a picture mood. Those airport stores have very little real estate and they only stock items that are in demand. In the past, there would be either nothing or maybe a hat from the blue and orange side; now there are both, and they are identical, and were present in both stores I walked by. Did my heart good. I did move the Yankees mugs that someone at the store clearly decided should be part of the Mets display back to their correct location.
Coming home last night from the airport, that gorgeous skyline view from the BQE, but my heart breaking just a little because the Empire State is blue and orange for the marathon tomorrow, and not for other reasons.
Running into the stand-up above in a Duane Reade in midtown. I have also been trying to buy the banners off the owners of our local 99 cent stores. I sent a letter to get Glaceau Vitamin Water offering to do a promotion/contest with metsgrrl.com but they clearly have reading comprehension issues because the email back to me explained in terms better suited to a three year old that the promotional materials were not for sale. Um, right. That’s why I wanted to do a contest. FREE ADVERTISING.
I have yet to watch this week’s Mets Weekly and that will rate a separate post later if I managed to make the cut.

I’m trying to figure out the legal aspects on “free advertising” because certainly trying to help out it seems irrational to some companies ... I understand your point 110%
Did you make the cut? I couldn’t catch Mets Weekly today :( but I want to see it!! Do you have a file or something?
I didn’t make the cut.Hell, even Anthony Hot Foot only got 8 words in. Even adorable ZOE did not make it. But I think there is one more MW before it ends for the year.
I think.
What annoyed me about Glaceau is that I sent them a pretty well thought out & creative pitch. And instead of saying, Thanks but no thanks, I got this insulting letter back.
I saw a girl carrying that huge David Wright ad on the subway, and I involuntarily called out “David Wright!” Also? It was Halloween and she was dressed in some (duh) sexy costume.
Hot Foot says our Mets Weekly will air next week. I’m guessing--because my comments are more fun and funny than all serious authority-ish--that I won’t be seen much. But I’m hoping you will!
Don’t stay away for so long.Yhis down time is just as bad for us as it is for you.
Just read on HotFoot that you guys will be on Mets Weekly NEXT week.
Thanks for sharing your excitement all season, it is infectious! Not so inciting that I watched all the games but enough that I read all your blogs and knew who was in the playoffs this year!
baby steps..... lets go METS!
I wish I had caught your comment on my blog sooner! I am actually the person from Glaceau that put the promotion together. Although the Search For Mr. Wright contest is over (the hunt is on Thursday!), we will definitely run a tun of more promotions in conjunction with David in 2007.
Trust me- I’ll keep you tuned!
