OLLIE’S REHAB START.

I headed down to Coney Island today to check out Oliver Perez’ rehab start with the Cyclones. Ollie did well, 6 K’s, 72 pitches, 2 walks, 2 hits. I started to feel like he wasn’t throwing enough strikes towards the end of his outing, but attribute that to a nervous Mets fan wanting her pitcher back in the rotation than any real serious analysis.

Oliver’s delivery seemed more controlled. His movement was smoother, he flails about less in his landing. Of course it’s easy to be in control when you’re throwing a minor league game, time will tell if he can transfer anything he’s learned in this rehab outing to the big time. Tony Bernazard was hanging around to check things out.

More photos after the jump.

These are some of my favorite shots, you can also go through the full set of Ollie goodness.

Yeah, I decided to head out there.  First Cyclones game, though I had been there for a Phish Concert (sadly missing Jay-Z by a day).  ollie looked good.  You can always tell when he’s gonna have a good game cause his mechanix are sound; his stance isn’t lopsided like it always is when he’s bout to walk 6.  Well, anyway, gotta say I’m hooked on short-season A.  Gonna try to go to an away game in oneonta, HAHAHAH.

You know what I got hooked on? PLAYERS RUNNING OUT EVERY HIT NO MATTER WHAT. Running hard. Big fan of that.

Ollie will be of greatest value to the major league club if he stays in Brooklyn. Addition by subtraction.

Oh ye of little faith.

I used to live about two miles from the Renegdes stadium in Wappingers Falls and would catch about a game every two weeks. It was really easy to pick up a ticket on the internet and swing over after dinner. Now I live about 20 minutes away, but it’s still convenient, fun, and cheap (although the food at the stadium really sucks!).

I’ll have to catch another game soon. The last one I attended featured Evan Longoria in one of his 8 days with the ‘Gades before heading up the ladder to eventual fame and fortune.

Any idea what the rotation looks like for the cyclones, or how long Ollie will be with the team? I got tickets to see the Cyclones play against the Tri-city Valley Cats on Sunday July 5. Depending on off-days and how many pitchers in their rotation - I might have a chance to catch him pitch. Any ideas?

I went to the game, section 7, row E. My camera is not nearly as good as yours b/c my shots came out poorly.
It was alot of fun though.

Bill, I don’t think Ollie is “with the team” so much as getting a rehab start.

Daniel, I was in the same row as you, one section closer to home plate. As I like to remind people, don’t blame the instrument. I took 500+ photos of Oliver, between his soft tossing on the field, his bullpen warmup session, and the game. The more photos you take, the more chances of getting good shots. Plus, the more shots you take, the better you get at it.

I work really hard at taking good photos. The camera helps but it is not the only variable. I took good photos when I had a crappy camera.

It is disheartening when people come and say “oh your shots are so great, what camera do you have?”

I see the Bmets a couple times every year and it is always a good time. As for running out hits milb player always play harder. Next time you go to tradition check out the milb parking lot, it will be packed at 6am
