HEADACHE REMEDY. [7-13-07]
Here are the two pictures that tell you everything you need to know about last night’s game:
The Mets sucked, and TBF got such a monumental migraine he finally agreed to leave at the bottom of the 5th inning (which is, of course, how I knew exactly how bad his headache was. We don’t leave games early.)
More, and more photos (including Rickey), after the jump.
What can I say that hasn’t already been said about this game?
I was - I am - heartened by the moves. Julio Franco being gone won’t give me that feeling that Willie’s just laid down and rolled over at whatever point in the game he sends him out to pinch hit. But I still don’t see any signs that the Mets are going to change one iota from their current inconsistency this season.
I am strongly in favor of Lastings Milledge ‘07 and think that everyone who is ready to sell him down the river for two sacks of baseballs just because he was a rookie last year and sang on a bad rap song this year is not only ridiculous, but a complete and total moron. Let’s let him do something blatantly wrong repeatedly before we judge the kid, okay? Lastings preening or being excited and happy to be there is not a fatal flaw. Not catching balls because you’re not running hard enough to get underneath them or getting thrown out at first because you’re too old, out of shape or complacent to run the ball down IS a fatal flaw, and the latter is what our problem is. Because we’re not going to get Roy Oswalt or Alex Rodriguez or Ichiro for Lastings Milledge, and trading a young prospect with promise for yet another creaking oldster is the kind of dumbass, short-sighted move that would not only not move the Mets forward, but would move them six steps further back than where we are now, that place where the BRAVES are just about to step on the heels of our sneakers and give us a flat tire.
As for Rickey Henderson and Rick Downs, I know Willie is not happy and I question Rickey’s stability - but I gotta think that Omar knows what he’s doing. Right? He’s gotta.
What I am still irked about big time is the fact that OH MY GOD MOISES ALOU IS NOT COMING BACK SO CAN WE STOP PRETENDING THAT HE IS AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT LEFT FIELD?
I was hoping that the break would help, that someone would find their mojo - basically all of the things I’d been hoping for all season, that we’d been hoping for all season, that feeling of “Any second the Mets are going to break out of their slump/bad streak/bad mood/poor performance/bad attitude,” and right now, I’ve found my zen place where I am prepared that this just might not happen, and that our Playoff Fund may end up turning into the Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Last Tour fund. Because at this rate I’ll need something to get me out from under the kitchen sink come October, and Tommy LaSorda ain’t gonna be the one to do it.
But I’d much rather be putting the Playoff Fund towards the playoffs and go see Bruce in Europe in the Spring. So let’s get with it, boys. Let’s make it happen now. More of this:
