FACT-GATHERING.

Kind Commenter Ken chimed in on the Thanksgiving post to note that his invoice discount amounted to much smaller than the Wilpons had indicated. Some people on Twitter were talking about anything from a 1.5% decrease to a 15% decrease - and one person I chatted with did, in fact, have a 13% decrease.

So, let’s see the numbers. Don’t average, please - post what your invoice was last year and what it is this year. Just give us the numbers and let everyone else do the math.

Be sure to also let us know your thoughts about the wonderful, customer-friendly email they sent regarding payment.

In 2009, I paid $4105 for two Promenade Reserved seats, and in 2010, those same seats are $3955, a net savings of $150 or $1.85 per game, or 93 cents per seat per game.

Seats: Prom Rez Infield “Sat” plan (Qty 2)

2009: $775
2010: $765

Total savings $10 ($0.33 per ticket, per game)

I have section 511. My tickets went down 10% for 2010, but I’m not renewing. I have better ways to waste my money. :)

Right field Reserved

2009: $805
2010: $780

Over 13 games that is a savings of $1.92 per game or $0.96 per ticket.

I did not renew.

I’ll re-post my numbers here:

I have the “Saturday Plus” plan. We have a pair of Promenade Reserved Infield seats (section 518).

2009: 2*$375 (ticket) + $25 (service charge)
2010: 2*$370 (ticket) + $25 (service charge)

The same as Anonymous from NJ…

Assuming you were able to buy every seat in the ballpark for every game in 2009, and compare the cost of the same feat in 2010, 90 percent of the money you save is realized by the lower prices in the Ebbets Club, Field Box, and Baseline Box (including all the flavors of metal in these sections).  The steep discounts for these seats makes the 10-percent average.  I used pricing data and seat installation drawings (over at baseball fever) to come to this conclusion.

400 and 500 level seat pricing did not change, and the only difference between 2009 and 2010 is fewer “GOLD” games, which is how the Mets were able to state that everyone’s bill would be lower then last year.

The Mets were quite the salesmen with their pitch.  (Pun intended).

Here are a bunch of Twitter responses:

user @SCOTNESS:
myself and 6 friends have the Saturday plan we paid around $323.00 this is year the price is $281.00 and we are in the promenade

user @microtony:
I am giving up my season tix. Not sure the Mets realize how bad it’s going to get for them.

user @secondstanza:
I don’t think I’ll be renewing… The one year I get a ticket plan, they absolutely stink. I’m too superstitious for that!

user @nuyoricansol:
Just got my Met ticket plan invoice.Price dropped a whopping 3%.No way in Hell I am renewing!

user @jnetty99:
I’m not going to renew my partial plan. I will buy games A LA Carte. Not renewing mainly because of lack of extra money. December 18th deadline too soon for me.

user @scalaaz:
i got an invoice last wk. Prices went down 10% but i’m not renewing. I have better ways to waste money :)

user @NYSportzNut:
same here, invoice was the same so i turned my invoice into a baseball and threw a fastball into my garbage pail. promised myself I would not renew if the Mets did not fire Omar…i’ll stubhub a few games this year or walk up to the box office. i live in Flushing about 10 mins from Citi Field, i’ll call ahead to see if tix are available and i’ll get better seats too.

PRO:

user @aiahrachel:
I’m planning to upgrade to slightly better seats, so I’m letting my seats from last year slide.

user @ivanctorres:
I didn’t have a plan last year but I will get a plan this year. likely a 15 game plan. I went to citifield at least 10 times and I just love going to the park.also think the team will be better since it just can’t get much worse.

user @awolf12:
I am renewing. Saturday plan

I know Kind Commenter Meg will be renewing, and we will also be renewing one of our plans, but not both.

We are still coming down heavy on the side of people who will NOT be renewing.

Posted by Caryn  from  Brooklyn, NY  on  11/30  at  09:49 PM

i am in RF reserved row 3, going from 4 seats to 2 seats.  the only dropped like 200 bucks.

the face value of the tickets is the same, however, if you look at the schedule, there are mach less ‘gold games’ and many more bronze and silver games.

2009: 6480
2010: 6350

Total Savings: $130or $1.60 per game (.80 per ticket)

NOT renewing.

2009: 2 seats prom. inf. (sec 506) - $355 per seat - approx $47.33 per game
2010: 2 seats prom. inf. (sec 506) - $335 per seat - approx $44.66 per game

total savings of $2.67 per game.

I will not be renewing this season as I don’t foresee a holiday bonus with which to buy the package.

Posted by brendan  from  manhattan  on  12/01  at  11:04 AM

Doug, would love a link to your baseball-fever post. I don’t have the energy to navigate the scalper board.

it is striking how many people really think they got a tremendous discount & bought the Mets’ party line.

Posted by Caryn  from  Brooklyn, NY  on  12/01  at  11:14 AM

i will not be renewing my seats….I have 4 seats and this season will be a waste as the Mets have no idea how to save this sinking ship.

Posted by REED  from  FOREST HILLS, NY  on  12/01  at  11:28 AM

My two Pepsi Porch seats went from 3240 to 3144…a 96 savings, or 2.9%

I am not renewing

Posted by Kevin  from  Forest Hills  on  12/01  at  11:29 AM

My question is how people felt about the letter the Mets sent along with the invoice.  I felt that the letter was written by a 10 year old or a business executive with no care for the fan base.  Shouldn’t a packet have been enclosed with the invoice explaining how we truly adore the fans and what kind of advantages you will have from buying the ticket plans.  Instead it just says we will hope to put a better team on the field.  They should have just said please enclose a check for another miserable season.

Posted by Lou  from  Queens  on  12/01  at  11:32 AM

Last year, 4 seats:  22,880
This year, 4 seats:  22,033

I think its a 4% discount.  Yes, I am renewing only because they are field level and front row and because I found someone who agreed to take 1/2 the season.

Posted by Lee  from  NYC  on  12/01  at  11:33 AM

Hey Lou,

The post that I wrote today covers the note (because when I got the letter, all I did was look at the actual invoice, to tell you the truth).

Please add your comments there.

I don’t have the invoice in front of me (it’s at home), but it’s something exactly like an ealier poster said:

Prom Rez Infield “Sat” plan (Qty 2)

2009: $775
2010: $765

Total savings $10 ($0.33 per ticket, per game)

I was pretty unsatisfied with the location of the seats anyway (2nd to last row), and I wouldn’t have renewed these seats even if the Mets had done well last year, and this just makes it worse.

0% chance I renew.

Posted by Old Backstop  on  12/01  at  11:47 AM

Mine is similar to others in the PRI, Sunday-Plus plan, down $10 for 2 tickets ($5/per).

I’m not renewing not so much of the cost, but because
1) The “Plus” part of the package sucks.  Give me back my Sunday only plan.  I live too far to go to weekday games.  I was lucky to get rid of my 5 weekdays last year among 2 sets of people who wanted to go see the new stadium.  It’s not new anymore and I don’t have the confidence that I’d get anyone to buy them from me
2) Row 14 in the PR is the upper deck no matter how much Ownership wants to say it’s not & that it’s sooooo much closer.

Posted by Shell  on  12/01  at  11:50 AM

Side note: I actually had two different 15 game plans (2 tickets in each plan) for a total of 30 games. Will not be renewing on either.

Posted by Old Backstop  on  12/01  at  11:51 AM

Lou - I am guessing you are in row 23 of the Field.  You might not know this but they changed the pricing and row 24 is now $4,000 cheaper than row 23!  I was also in row 23 but am not renewing.

Posted by Jamie  from  NY, NY  on  12/01  at  11:51 AM

I will not be renewing my plan, but it has nothing to do with the price of the ticket and more to do with the team and schedule I got.
I have the Sunday package. The deadline is Dec 1st to renew. In my package they play the Phils THREE TIMES and many other teams twice or three times. For 15 games I am going to see the same opponents many times. Also, given how disgusting and rude Philly fans are at CitiField (I personally don’t like the obscene language, personal attacks and so forth) why would I want to subject myself to that? Further, there is a Subway series game which I have no interest in seeing for much of the same reason.

Also, with the deadline being Dec 1st, how am I suppose to see any improvements with this team? Right now, we have the exact same team. I know the big moves don’t come till the end, but to ask us to renew BEFORE any changes are done, no thank you. I am not taking the risk to see the KC Royals.

So it has more to do with the quality and poor schedule than the money. Although I guess in the end, money is a bit of an issue because I see myself getting a very poor value/return for what I am putting in (don’t forget parking and tolls!)

Posted by Colonel_Kurtz  from  NYC  on  12/01  at  11:57 AM

I will not renew the tickets. last year had friday pack and every week i recieved emails from mets showing field level seats for 50% off i called the mets they didnt want to hear it so take your tickets and shove them up your ass

Posted by cory  from  stamford ct  on  12/01  at  12:24 PM

Left field landing seats (Qty 2) 15 game saturday package

2009 cost $1,259
2010 cost $1,250

I will not renew this is a joke of a decrease.

Posted by Julien Dancona  from  Pine Island, NY  on  12/01  at  12:30 PM

Not sure if I’m renewing, I usually buy the tickets with my mom and two sisters. This year we didn’t make it to a lot of the game, it’s not the cost, it’s the amount of games, and the mid-week games. I’d like them to bring back the or even seven pack games they used to have back when I started buying tickets in 2006.

Here are the numbers for 4 tix in RF Prom Reserved, not much of savings either:

2009: 1213
2010: 1197

Posted by Tinamarie  on  12/01  at  12:34 PM

5 Promedade Reserved Seats Sec. 532

2009: 318 per seat
2010: 293 per seat

Approx. a 7.9% decrease.

More than most but not worth the apathetic effort last season and lack of changes thus far this offseason.

Good luck getting better this season!

Posted by Craig Yannes  from  CT  on  12/01  at  12:37 PM

2009: two seats in 536 were $601
2010: same seats were offered for $532

i didn’t like that the invoice was mailed to look like a bill in need of payment complete with yellow carbon copy. and am i to believe that by dec. 18 when payment is due to retain my seats that omar is going to have returned the team to “championship caliber.” i doubt it. i’m not renewing, my way of showing my disapproval for last year. i can go to handful on single games if i want.

now watch them win the world series this year and me regret sitting out…grrr

Posted by webb  from  New York, NY  on  12/01  at  01:10 PM

I don’t know the exact numbers since it’s not my name on the account, but the group of 25 or so people that I’m part of for a full season tickets got what sounded like a minimal decrease.  Most of us voted NOT to renew (even without seeing the actual 2010 price).

Sec 405, row 2 (right on the bend where the RF seats angle out from the infield seats).

Posted by DyHrdMET  from  Sec 405  on  12/01  at  01:14 PM

2009: lEFT FIELD LANDING - $3300 (ROUNDED)
2010: lEFT FIELD LANDING - $3150 (ROUNDED)

I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WHEN I RECEIVED THE INVOICE. NOT MUCH DIFFERNCE. I’M NOT SURE IF I WILL RENEW BUT I HAVE UNTIL 12/4. THE NEW BENEFITS FOR THE SEASON TICKET HOLDERS ARE A JOKE. THE METS NEVER TREATED THEIR STHS VERY WELL.

Posted by EUGENE  from  BAYSIDE  on  12/01  at  01:29 PM

I had a 15 game plan that cost me 605.00, I ended up with a plan that cost 589.00, a difference of 16 dollars. The seats were obstructed view for LEFT FIELD and CENTER FIELD up in the reserved seats (the upper level). We were in Left field in fair territory, but you could not see anything in left field, or anything in Center. These seats must be changed to “OBSTRUCTED VIEW SEATING” but they never will. U cannot see anything.

I will not be renewing my tickets, and because of the secondary market…I can just buy 2 tickets to 3 or 4 games, once a month and be happy.

I dont know about the rest of you, but I am not wasting money on a team that doesnt even want to make a move. They are scared to sign Matt Holliday, scared to trade pitchers away that are at least 2-3 years away. They need to go out and spend money for me to EVER consider buying a full season ticket package. I have the money, but choose not to buy it.

Hi my name is Coop and I am a sadomasochist Mets fan (Hi Coop).  I wanted to respond on here that I saved a marginal amount for 2010 in the promenade 500s - not a high row, 3rd base side.  When I inquired about moving closer to home plate, my sales rep told me it could be ok, but when I asked for promenade club access, I was basically told no way.  Then he suggested the outfield reserved, which are those stragglers on the FL.  The price was almost too good to be true - since it is still less than what I paid for Mezzanine Box at Shea in 2008.  Not to mention club access.  I would have been less motivated to renew/upgrade if i didn’t have one partner and a partial partner in on the season, however.

I completely agree with the weekend-“plus” holders for not renewing.  Why get a bunch of games you will not be able to attend for majority of reasons?

Posted by The Coop  from  NYC  on  12/01  at  02:47 PM

2 Seats Left Field Reserved

2009: $8400
2010: $7800

Posted by JJ Sullivan  from  Fresh Meadows  on  12/01  at  03:36 PM

I had 2 15-game packs.  Both were Promenade Reserved, so I wasn’t expecting much of a price drop.  Even if they had dropped 10% or more, I wouldn’t have been renewing either plan.

I’m curious to see how the Mets react when they see all of these fans not renewing their plans.  I might consider a 7 game pack (one where a Saturday plan actually included only games on Saturdays) but as someone above mentioned, I’ll probably be content buying tickets to a few games and scouring Stub Hub for some last-minute deals for some others.

Posted by Chris C  on  12/01  at  11:53 PM

I had 4 seats in the weekday plan. Discount was $20 per seat which amounts to $1.33 per game. This year they are sticking me with 4 Aril games and 3 September games including multiple games in the same series against Cubs and Brewers, Last year I bought to be able to go to the first game. THis year I will be wathcing my HD TV. I will not be renewing.
