EVERYBODY LOVES MR. MET.

As you may remember, I got to meet up with Samara from the fantastic Tigers blog Roar of the Tigers when Detroit came to Citi Field. I arrived just in time to provide her with key photographic assistance in order to capture her meeting with Mr. Met. The photographs of this adventure follow, along with Sam’s hysterical commentary.

“suddenly, a celebrity appears: MR. MET. I understand that the mascots are meant to target small children, I really do. But I also really, really did not care. This was my first time at the Mets’ ballpark (I never got out to Shea) and who knows when I’ll ever be back. I AM MEETING MR. MET AND I AM GOING TO LOVE IT AND YOU CAN ALL EAT IT.”

“A pleasant enough greeting to start.”

“He notices what I’m wearing (a hat with the early 60s-early 90s tiger-in-a-circle logo, and a 2009 Brandon Inge All Star game jersey). Mr. Met expresses shock, possibly some dismay. I’m like, “Yeah man, here it is, AMERICAN LEAGUE. What of it?”

“Mr. Met is saddened and distressed by the non-Mets outfit.”

“It is remarkable how much Mr. Met can express with his one facial expression and a series of mute gestures. Here he is very clearly saying, “Get a load’a this, willya? Brandon Inge, can you even believe it?” You know. In my mind.”

“The sordid exchange ends with a cheerfully defiant Tigers fan, and a mortified Mr. Met. Of course, as it turned out, joke’s on me! The Mets absolutely slaughtered the Tigers in this game. But neither one of us knew that yet.”

“watch out citi field, it’s BLOGGERS”

I love your friends attitude when it comes to the baseball mascots. I am the same way and whenever I go to a ball park that is outside of Queens, I always seek out the mascot.

XOXO,
Danielle
