THE FIREWORKS ARE HAILING OVER LITTLE EDEN TONIGHT.
When asked to describe his managerial style, Sandy Alderson replied: “Bold, but alert to risk and probabilities.” I appreciate that he was asked to compare how he was different than Omar, and instead going there, put a positive spin on the answer instead. The press conference was great. I felt better than I have in years. It was a delight to watch someone who knew how to interact with the media and was able to articulate their thoughts. WORLD SERIES THOUGHTS.
It’s been a funny couple of weeks, in that I cared far more about the Division Series and the LCS than TBF did. I watched more innings of more games, I paid more attention, I monopolized the television, I answered TBF’s questions about various players on various teams, I avidly followed the game while attending various concerts, I showed up just as bands were going on because I was across the street watching the ends of games. This is an odd state of affairs, indeed. Fans whose teams are not playing in the postseason are composing all sorts of theories about who they are rooting for and why. Some people held elections. Some people got fans of other teams to campaign about why they should have their rooting interest. INTERVIEWING CHRIS CARTER.
It was Blogger Day again on Friday (rescheduled twice already), but unfortunately, due to the weather, BP was cancelled – quite literally they put the tarp back on the field as we arrived in the dugout. Without much for us to do, given that the ballpark wasn’t open yet, we were asked if there were any players we wanted to talk to. We made our requests…and got Chris Carter. GREAT IDEAS.
Yesterday, the last day of the regular baseball season: –The Red Sox let EVERYONE, above 12 and under 12, run the bases. So did the Giants –The Rays encouraged their fans to show up at the airport to welcome their team back from Kansas City –Dodgers: “It was Fan Appreciation Day, but most of the prizes went to those in the most expensive seats.” –Red Sox: “Members of the front office, including Larry Lucchino, were at the gates pre-game handing out magnetic schedules.” (Also Youkilis.) Green Monster read “Thank You Fans”. –Reds: Tons of hats, gloves, balls, BP equipment tossed in the stands (but this doesn’t count because THEIR TEAM IS GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS)… [more]
