As you all know, we are not exactly a breaking news site, so this usually isn’t my thing. But I’m stuck on a conference call where all I’m doing is being the person who opened it, so I’m following a couple of things: 1) Newsday’s David Lennon on Twitter: “Mets get just lucky on Manny Ramirez? Or did they know something? Hmmm. Remember — they passed on him twice last year.” 2) Baseball Prospectus’ Will Carroll, also on Twitter: a) “Just heard a report on what and why Ramirez tested positive. Working to confirm, but … this is more Romero than A-Rod.” b) “Official release out on Manny.… [more]

A tinny radio signal drifts in and out “Top of the 9th,” Wayne says. Insurance runs, a tomahawk chant FUNDAMENTALS! TBF laughs. “That’s Francisco Rodriguez.” I am watching the windshield through my fingers as though the game is taking place in front of the headlights. The nemesis and then David slays the Goliath. I only got to hear the 9th inning of the game, the rest related by Gameday and TBF. (I am in class on Tuesday nights until the end of the month. I signed up and I paid for it and I want to be there, and in this particular case, baseball comes second.) We can get mad at Delgado and get mad at Church, but they won.… [more]

In what will surprise none of you, TBF and I did not get to see the game tonight because we were at the Nassau Coliseum seeing someone whose initials are B.S. We did, however, get to hear that horrible inning where John Maine walked all of Fulton County, just as we were parking the car. It did not make us happy. When we got back in the car and were waiting our turn to get on the highway, TBF said, “Let’s see what the Mets did.” I reached for the radio. “No, not that, I know they lost, I don’t want to hear the details.” “I’ll look it up on my PDA.” “I just want to know the score.” Ignoring him, I went to ESPN.… [more]

Remember these days? Remember when the site of this gave us goosebumps? And before everyone goes piling on Sean Green, maybe if Oliver had been able to get through 7 innings and hand the ball to JJ we wouldn’t have been in that mess. Or maybe we would have anyway. What I said on Saturday was that although it was horrible to watch, at least I feel like the Mets fought the entire way. I don’t feel like they gave up somewhere around the bottom of the 5th. I am glad we had a day off yesterday.… [more]

I keep digging out this photo over and over again. It’s from 9/30/07, and before you say anything – no. I don’t see that as a jinx. To me, that is the day we still can’t get away from – not 2006, because there at least that year they got to the playoffs. Just win. I don’t even need a sweep. Just take the series this weekend. Or at least fight for it every minute you’re on the field.… [more]
